Amazon Takes Over Former Jet.com Space at Prologis Bronx
Prologis has signed Amazon.com to occupy a 200,000-square-foot warehouse in the South Bronx. Known as Prologis Bronx, the property at 1055 Bronx Ave. was previously occupied by Jet.com, which parent company Walmart shut down last month.
“With next-day delivery increasingly the norm for e-commerce companies, the demand for Last Touch distribution centers has never been higher,” said Prologis SVP Jesse Harty. “Prologis Bronx exemplifies our urban, infill strategy – we successfully redeveloped a property that is located in an area where consumption is rising the fastest and it now serves our customers’ need to reach the end consumer.”
The South Bronx lease is the latest last-mile distribution site Amazon has added in New York City, the New York Business Journal reported. Amazon leased a 450,000-square-foot warehouse on Staten Island earlier this year, adjacent to its existing 855,000-square-foot facility. The company is also taking 300,000 square feet at Rentar Plaza in Queens.
