ALDI’s Distribution Facility, Regional HQ Certified LEED Gold
ALDI’s Moreno Valley, CA distribution center and regional HQ received LEED Gold certification from the USGBC. The expanding German grocery chain opened the 835,000-square-foot facility earlier this year.
The first building in the 52-acre business park houses cold storage space, ambient dry storage, a two-story Class A corporate office, and space for break areas, locker rooms, support and trucker dispatch. ALDI, and design-build contractor, Oakbrook Terrace, IL-based Graycor Construction Co., collaborated with architects and engineers to improve the design and materials used in the development.
Among the sustainable building features installed include:
- Renewable energy from on-site solar panels that provide 60% of the facility’s electricity
- Ammonia refrigeration system, which is a naturally occurring element and highly energy efficient
- Electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle racks that promote the use of greener methods of transportation
- Water efficient landscaping and plumbing
