Aldi Makes Southern California Push

The Germany-based discount grocer Aldi is opening more stores in Southern California.

Company executives plan to open 45 new stores in Southern California in March, as the grocery chain looks to expand its reach in that part of the state.

There is plenty of competition. Haggen has recently expanded in Southern California, and Walmart and Target are offering more food options in their mass-merchandise stores.

What analysts say is that Aldi might have a leg up on competition because it offer a lower price than most competitors. The grocer has about 1,400 stores in 32 states around the country.
