Akoustis Acquires SUNY Assets

Akoustis Technologies Inc. entered into a definitive agreement to acquire assets from the Research Foundation for the State University of New York. The assets under contract include a semiconductor wafer manufacturing operation (Smart System Technology, or STC), microelectromechanical systems and real estate associated with the facility in Canandaigua, NY. The $2.8-million transaction is expected to close in Q2 2017.

The 120,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is on 57 acres at 5450 Campus Dr. The transaction permits Akoustis, which is headquartered in North Carolina, to consolidate and internalize manufacturing, providing better capacity and control of its wafer supply chain.

Akoustis is a radio frequency manufacturer that produces single-crystal bulk acoustic wave filters for mobile and wireless markets.
