Airbnb’s Experiential Business Tracking Towards One Million Bookings, Profitability in 2019
Airbnb Inc. is on track to book one million tours and activities as part of its experiences business line that launched a year ago. The San Francisco-based room sharing company is seeking to grow into a full-fledged travel company.
The diversification effort includes offering a collection of new services, ranging from excursions to see local attractions to restaurant reservations. Airbnb expects the unit to achieve profitability late next year, and it may eventually exceed revenue of its core home-renting business.
Currently, there are more than 5,000 excursions across at least 58 cities that include wine-tasting in California, glass-blowing in Chicago, kimono making in Tokyo or guided meditation in Paris. Airbnb plans to add an additional 25,000 travel experiences by the end of this year.
