AEG Proposes $1.2B DTLA Hotel, Convention Center Expansion
Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) is moving forward on a $1.2-billion plan to expand the J.W. Marriott hotel at L.A. Live and Los Angeles Convention Center. That includes a proposed $700 million, 40-story hotel featuring 850 guest rooms and 51,000 square feet of meeting space.
The new 420-foot tower would connect to the Convention Center and existing hotel via pedestrian bridges. The combined J.W. Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotel complex would encompass 1,851 hotel rooms, making it the second largest hotel in the state.
AEG is also partnering with the City of Los Angeles on a proposed $500-million Convention Center expansion, which would add up to 350,000 square feet of new space. AEG believes the additions would create a more cohesive 100-acre campus with multiple meeting spaces, lodgings, theaters and restaurants.
A City Council committee endorsed nearly $100 million in public subsidies for the projects, both of which are envisioned to be completed by 2022.
