Adient Targets Marquette Building for HQ

Adient Ltd. will buy downtown Detroit’s 164,000-square-foot Marquette Building for its new global headquarters. The company will spend upwards of $97.5 million on the relocation; up to $25 million will be used to acquire the 10-story building at 243 W. Congress St., and an additional $50 million to renovate it. The move-in will take approximately two years.

Adient, the world’s largest automotive seating supplier, will use the renovated building to consolidate corporate functions from various Michigan locations. Ultimately, the goal is for the global headquarters to hold approximately 500 employees.

The activity represents the first Fortune 500 company headquarters relocation, since BorgWarner Inc. moved to Auburn Hills in 2004.
