Additional Renter Relief Available as Arizona Eviction Ban Ends

Two key Arizona housing and rental relief funds are set to receive another $7 million injection from the state’s Crisis Contingency and Safety Net Fund. The additional funding will likely be welcome relief for landlords, as well as renters facing the end of Arizona’s eviction moratorium at the end of this month.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey says, “Ensuring Arizonans have safe, reliable housing during this pandemic is critical. With today’s funding, we are expanding efforts to keep all Arizonans in their homes and helping ensure rents continue to get paid.”

The Rental Property Owner Preservation Fund was launched in July with a $5-million allocation that has since been claimed by landlords seeking to keep properties afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic-induced economic downturn. Another fund, the Arizona Department of Housing’s Rental Eviction Prevention Fund, will receive an additional $2 million to help tenants in Phoenix pay rent.

Maricopa County eviction filings have fallen during the moratorium, but the Maricopa County Justice Courts reported filings increased to 2,863 in September. That is a bump up from 2,171 in August and 1,768 in July.
