Acquisition Adds Amarillo Storage Space

The Amarillo (TX) City Council agreed to buy a 14,859-square-foot building at 701 S.E. 5th Ave. in the CBD. The property will be acquired from 701 SE 5th LLC for $700,000, and will be used as a storage facility for the Civic Center, located across the street. Gaut Whittenburg Emerson Commercial Real Estate negotiated the transaction.

“In essence, it is a 14,859-square-foot warehouse sitting straight across the street from the Civic Center,” City Manager Jared Miller said at a recent council meeting. “It’s the only piece of property on that block that we don’t own. We need the storage space for Civic Center use and we also need to secure the property, if there is to be future expansion or redevelopment at the Civic Center.”

According to Sherman Bass with the Amarillo Civic Center, the additional room will “give us an opportunity to save manpower each time we use it, because we won’t be shifting everything around.”
