“Queen of Retail” Faith Hope Consolo Passes Away Suddenly
Faith Hope Consolo, known as the “Queen of Retail,” passed away suddenly on Sunday of an apparent heart attack at her Manhattan home. She was 69 years old.
“She is a friend and mentor to the real estate industry and an icon to retail in the Big Apple, and we at Connect Media are very honored to have known her and to have been one of her many friends,” said Daniel Ceniceros, president of Connect Media. Among her many accolades, Consolo was named one of Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate 2018 earlier this year.
A legendary figure in commercial brokerage, Consolo is credited with revitalizing some of Manhattan’s highest-profile retail corridors, and with introducing numerous retailer brands to the market. Zara, Versace and Uniqlo were among them.
Consolo joined Douglas Elliman Real Estate in 2005 as chairman of the firm’s retail division. Much quoted for her insights into retail, Consolo was also known for leadership roles in key industry associations including the International Council of Shopping Centers and the CREW Network.
“We are devastated by the news of Faith’s sudden passing,” CREW’s leadership said in a statement. “She was a staunch supporter and leader in CREW Network, having served on our board of directors in recent years. She was an amazing woman dedicated to other women in the industry. Her leadership in both CREW and the New York real estate community was influential. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.”
Consolo made an impact on a one-to-one level as well. “Faith was an incredible mentor to women throughout the industry and would give her time selflessly to see young women advance,” said Connect Media’s Sarah Quinn and Emily Lettieri. “She personally spent time with both of us and was a sounding board both personally and professionally, doing whatever she could to support us and our growing business. We are devastated to lose her; she will always be remembered as the Queen of Retail.”
In a statement, Douglas Elliman CEO Steven James said, “Faith was a legend in New York commercial real estate, especially the NYC retail stores and businesses. Many of her clients were long-term ones. They believed in her to get the job done—and she did!”
