A New Plan for the CBD
The Houston Downtown Management District is putting together a plan to generate development around the city’s urban core and historical area. Specifically, district officials formed a 17-member leadership group to create Plan Downtown, a 20-year plan. The plan, which is currently being drafted, will be presented in late fall 2017, through meetings and public workshops.
The last comprehensive plan for downtown Houston was finalized in 2004. Bob Eury, executive director of the Downtown District, said that many aspects of that plan have been implemented. More residential development came about through the Downtown Living Initiative, while changes and renovations were made to the George R. Brown Convention Center and Avenida de las Americas.
