660-Acre Sustainable MPC Approved in Indio, CA

Early Bird Alert: Connect Apartments is planned for September 28th in Los Angeles. Here’s where to get more information and register.

Palm Desert, CA-based Family Development and San Diego-based Presidio Residential Capital received unanimous approval from the Indio City Council to build Virada. The environmentally-responsible 660-acre master-planned community is envisioned for 1,300 houses, townhomes, condos and apartments in northern Indio, CA on land the developers purchased in 2013.

Family Development’s Vincent Barbato says, “We’ve created Virada to promote a healthy, active lifestyle, with special significance on embracing the environment and forging community pride.”

Virada will include 284 acres of open space and public parkland, a clubhouse and pool and a two-and-a-half-acre commercial center strategically located to be within a five-minute walk for all residents. The community is connected by a loop road with wide sidewalks and paths for bikes and neighborhood electrical vehicles.

A dedicated solar field is expected to generate enough electricity to serve the community’s street lights and other power needs.
