400 New Affordable Homes on City-Owned Lots

Developement teams announced on July 24, 2017 they will build more than 400 affordable homes on 67 small, vacant, city-owned lots.

“One of the key drivers of the housing plan is the creative use of public land, which is in increasingly short supply,” said Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

She announced a seven development team who will build the homes, including a mix of affordable for-sale and rental housing. The development teams are: MHANY, Bronx Pro, East Brooklyn Congregations, Lemor Realty and Iris Development, JMR and Alembic Community Development, Fifth Avenue Committee and Habitat for Humanity, and Shelter Rock Builders.

They will build on city-owned lots in Central Harlem, in Brooklyn’s Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownville and East New York neighborhoods, and in the Melrose and Fordham neighborhoods of the Bronx.
