10 IL Hospitals Join AMITA System

Presence Health’s 10 hospitals across Illinois are now part of Ascension, the world’s largest Catholic healthcare system. The facilities will be operated through AMITA Health, a joint venture of Ascension’s Alexian Brothers Health System and Adventist Midwest Health, with headquarters in Arlington Heights, IL.

Ascension and Presence had been in talks about a possible merger since last summer. They formally announced an agreement last month.

“From our discussions the past several months, we know that we share a strong commitment to providing care to all who need it in the many communities we are privileged to serve,” said AMITA president and CEO Mark A. Frey. “Together, we can do even more.”

The Presence/Ascension partnership is the latest healthcare system merger across the Chicago region, following national trends. Federal and state regulators last month approved the union of Advocate, based in Downers Grove, IL, and Aurora Health Care of Milwaukee.
