$520M Civic Center Redev Commences

Development joint venture, Penary-Edgemoor Civic Partners commenced construction on Long Beach’s $520-million Civic Center redevelopment. The initial phase includes two 11-story mid-rise buildings, one of which will serve as City Hall, and the other a HQ for the Port of Long Beach.

The 270,000-square-foot City Hall building will contain a 250-seat council chamber, meeting rooms, office space and other services. Both buildings will be significantly more environmentally-friendly than buildings they replace.

Construction is also underway on a new Main Public Library at the corner of 1st St. and Pacific Ave., with the current library site being incorporated into a reconfigured and expanded Lincoln Park.

The developer also plans to build a series of mixed-use buildings, one of which could rise 36 stories, for a boutique hotel and 1,000 units of residential.
