$500M MXU Grove Clears Final Barrier

Developers of the Grove, once known as Grove at Shoal Creek, cleared the final hurdle to get the mixed-use project in central Austin off the ground. Austin’s Zoning and Platting Commission approved the preliminary plan and final pat for development, meaning ARG Bull Creek Ltd. is cleared to begin building the 75-acre, $500-million project. ARG plans to begin construction in June 2018.

The proposed development took years to get off the planning board, mainly due to continued contentious debate between developer and community residents, who feared a great deal of traffic congestion in the area of 45th Street and Bull Creek Road. The Grove won approval for a planned unit development, or PUD, zoning in December 2016, after a two-year process through the city.

The Grove is zoned for 1,550 houses and apartments, as well as retail, restaurant, entertainment, trails and parkland.
