$500M Marine Research Center Plans Groundbreaking
AltaSea, the $500-million marine research center at the Port of Los Angeles, set a groundbreaking later this year, and appointed two new executives. The group plans to transform a 35-acre property, known as City Dock No. 1, into a world-class center that unites global marine science, education and business.
Jenny Krusoe was named executive director, and Sandra Whitehouse was named chief scientific officer.
The 100-year-old pier on the LA Waterfront in San Pedro is envisioned as a key component of the revitalization process. AltaSea will bring together a cooperative of universities and green- and blue-tech companies.
The center’s tourist element would complement The Ratkovich Co.’s/Jerico Development’s nearby San Pedro Public Market project announced last week.
