$250M Denver Rock Drill MXU Planned

A partnership between Centennial, CO-based Saunders Development Co. and the Weiss family plans to develop Denver Rock Drill, a $250-million, mixed-use development in Denver’s Cole neighborhood. The project is planned to include 150,000 square feet of office, 65,000 square feet of retail, 180 residential units and a 175-key Sage Hospitality hotel.

The redevelopment project will transform the historic Denver Rock Drill Manufacturing Co. facility located at 1717 E. 39th Ave. That includes preserving and incorporating such features as the sawtooth-roofed machine shops into the new design.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2018. The Denver-based Weiss family has owned the site that spans more than a city block since 1992. The nearly nine-acre property traces its roots back to a pneumatic rock drill manufacturer that employed 600 people at the facility in the 1920s.
