$15M Federal Grant Funds New Manufacturing Training Center
The Inland Empire is heavily dependent on the industrial sector, as a result of massive investment in warehouse, distribution, logistics, and transportation-related facilities. Now, the region has a new manufacturing training center on the campus of California Steel Industrial in Fontana.
The program, which is overseen by Chaffey College and a consortium of area colleges, is funded by a $15 million grant awarded by the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training. It is the only federal grant given to the state of California.
The Industrial Technical Learning Center can accommodate up to 2,000 workers, and will provide certification in transportation, logistics, energy and utilities. The center is expected to help alleviate the shortage of trained workers, and help boost the region’s economy through higher paying technical jobs.
