$100M in Infrastructure Improvements on Tap in East Texas

The city of Tyler, TX is planning to spend upwards of $100 million on infrastructure improvements for streets, water and wastewater systems. “We have a lot of work to get done,” said Tyler’s mayor Martin Heines at a recent meeting. “We already have plans in place.”

The city plans to use a mix of 70% cash and 30% water revenue bonds to pay for wastewater and water improvements. Water and wastewater come from enterprise funds. As such, funds for the improvements will come from Tyler Water Utilities’ customers.

Meanwhile, capital street improvements are funded by a half-cent sales tax. The tax also funds an asphalt enhancement program.
