Brandywine Realty Trust to Build Five-Acre MXU Project in College Park

Terrapin Development Co., in partnership with the University of Maryland, has tapped Brandywine Realty Trust as the master developer for a new $300 million mixed-use project that will be part of the Discovery District in College Park, MD.

Brandywine plans to build a five-acre development which will include 550,000 square feet of office space, up to 250 multifamily units as well as retail. The project was designed by Baltimore-based architecture firm Ayers Saint Gross and Michael Vergason Landscape Architects. The project is also adjacent to the Purple Line, a 16-mile light rail project which broke ground in 2017.

The Discovery District consists of approximately 150 acres of completed and planned development between the University of Maryland campus and the College Park Metro station. The district also include a 297-room hotel that opened in 2017 as well as a WeWork coworking space that opened in 2019.

"The Discovery District will deliver an unmatched convergence of talent, transit, and amplify the visionary spirit that will be the foundation for a world-class innovation ecosystem," said Jerry Sweeney, CEO at Brandywine. "Once complete, this project will deliver durable value to the university, business and entrepreneurial stakeholders and the region."
