PDC Campus Assembles All Departments Under One Roof

The Austin Permitting and Development Center (PDC) is a campus that promotes information sharing and increased interaction between departments. The PDC is housed in a four-story office building in the revitalized Highland Mall neighborhood, also home to Austin Community College.

Previously, all PDC departments were spread out among several buildings or located on different floors, which made collaboration a challenge and resulted in frustrated customers. Today, the departments are brought together in the 251,000-square-foot building.

The civic workplace is designed by Gensler. A few of the design features include:

  • Indoor and outdoor meeting spaces/seating areas and an expansive visitor lobby
  • A blackwater recycling system that reuses wastewater for flushing (one of the first in the city), and the facility can also reclaim water from rainwater and condensate for landscaping
  • A workplace that supports employee wellness with sit-stand desks, adjustable seats, access to natural light and an on-site café
