USC Unveils Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine Facility for Arts, Technology
USC unveiled the 40,000-square-foot Iovine and Young Hall, a learning space that was underwritten by a $70 million gift from music industry icons and entrepreneurs Jimmy Iovine and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young. The pair shared a vision for a daring educational startup, after the Beats Electronics founders said they had trouble finding potential employees who were proficient in both technology and the arts.
The latest addition to the Los Angeles campus features technology-rich printing, electronics labs and alumni incubator space. The Academy is located at 3780 Watt Way, and offers a new kind of education at the intersection of four essential disciplines: art and design; technology and engineering; business and venture management; and communication.
The academic facility has classrooms, as well as a 3D print shop and a multimedia imaging lab. The hall will offer a podcast studio, along with incubator space dedicated for alumni and technology-laden conference rooms.
