Musk Plans to Supply Rocks for Housing and Buildings
Elon Musk is onto his next adventure. He recently announced that his infrastructure firm, The Boring Company, will provide earth rocks from the tunnels it creates to build new structures. Announcing his plans on social media, Musk humorously tweeted, “And they said I’d never be a rock star…”
Similar to Lego, Musk plans to offer kits and tutorials to the public to use the rocks to construct real life edifices, like the Egyptian pyramids, or even possibly, affordable housing units. Typically, when tunnels are made, the excavated dirt is disposed offsite, which is both a timely and costly process. Instead, the Boring Company is looking to do what Musk does best – increase efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The company’s FAQ page backs this fact and explains, “Since concrete production accounts for 4.5% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, earth bricks would reduce both environmental impact and tunneling costs.”
