Swedish furniture giant Ikea is always looking to be part of the next big thing. From acquiring Task Rabbit to introducing smart appliances, the company’s innovation lab, Space10, is working on concepts for outfitting autonomous vehicles with furniture to create experiences on wheels.
With its recent announcement of its zero-emissions delivery fleet, Space10 is taking transportation to the next level by collaborating with design studio Foam to release seven concepts for autonomous vehicles. There’s a grocery car, a shopping car, a coffee car, and a hotel car, to name a few – all of them are filled with furniture from Ikea and are intended to showcase how autonomous vehicles will change the future and open up new opportunities for services on the go.
Space10’s co-founder Simon Casperson says, “The day fully-autonomous vehicles hit our streets is the day cars are not cars anymore. They can be anything.”
