Do a Virtual Garage Sale with These Apps

Did you miss the spring cleaning season, and still have a garage full of “treasures”, and is the thought of holding a garage sale distasteful? Then, consider using one of these apps specifically designed to replace garage sales.

VarageSale is a free app for iOS/Android devices or accessed via VarageSale website. Create a short listing of what you want to sell, take a quick picture, write a short description with an asking price. It is quick and easy to list many items, and potential buyers can access the items through Facebook.

OfferUp lets you post listings in 30 seconds or less, and relies on photos to do the selling.

Shpock works similar to OfferUp, but caters to “beautiful” items. Think: fancy antique bike or more expensive electronics.

Facebook can be used too, via the search box at the top of the page (search terms “buy and sell”). Lets you tap into a wide network by city, county, etc.

Nextdoor also lets you share your items with the neighborhood in a similar simple way.

Remember to follow smart exchange rules. Veteran online sellers suggest carefully guarding your private information, exchanging items for cash, always insist on meeting in a public place, for safety, and never take checks.
