Craft Breweries and Houston: A Logical Match?

National  + Healthcare  |

Houston is known for many things: Oil, humidity and hurricanes. What might not top that list, however, is craft breweries. But according to data released from NAI Partners, the number of craft breweries has more than quadrupled in and around the Bayou City since 2013.

Prior to that time, Houston offered 12 such breweries, which totaled 174,795 square feet. These days, the Bayou City and surrounding areas is home to 52 breweries, representing a 333% increase over five years. The operations current occupy 506,295 square feet.

NAI Partners noted that part of the huge growth comes from a Texas law that allowed producers with a brew pub license to sell their beer directly from the brewery, versus relying solely on a three-tier distribution system. Even so, Texas, itself, has one of the lowest breweries per capita in the nation, given its size.
