Shop & Save Will Open South Shore’s 1st Supermarket Since 2014
Chicagoland grocery chain Shop & Save has signed a purchase agreement to build a new grocery store in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. Financial terms were not disclosed. The move marks a major step toward a new grocery option for the area, which has lacked a supermarket since Dominick’s closed locations across the city in 2014.
When completed, the new store will be the results of several years’ effort by the Emanuel administration, community leaders and Alderman Leslie Hairston. “I look forward to cutting the ribbon and officially welcoming Shop & Save to their new home in South Shore,” said Hairston.
Construction will begin immediately after the sale is finalized later this year for what will be Shop & Save’s seventh location overall, and third in Chicago. City assistance is expected but not finalized.
