NY, NJ and CT to Lift Business Capacity Restrictions Beginning May 19
The governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut said Monday their states would lift most business capacity restrictions beginning May 19. The three governors—New York’s Andrew Cuomo, New Jersey’s Phil Murphy and Connecticut’s Ned Lamont—cited significant progress in vaccinations and sustained reduction in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
Effective May 19, businesses will be limited only by the space available for patrons or groups to maintain the required social distance of six feet. Event venues can exceed current social gatherings limits if all attendees over age 4 can present proof of either vaccination or negative COVID testing status.
“Our region has led by example since the beginning of the pandemic, taking the virus seriously and working collaboratively across state lines to the benefit of all of our residents,” said Lamont.
Cuomo cited the three states’ “successful, data-based regional approach” as a driver toward reopening the state economies.
