Extell Development Company has unveiled a private outdoor garden, reportedly New York’s largest at 45,000 square feet, at its One Manhattan Square residential tower on the Lower East Side. It’s a key component of the 100,000-plus square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities at the 800-foot-tall tower.
The one acre-plus of exterior garden space designed by Netherlands-based West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. West 8, which also designed “the Hills” at Governor’s Island, engineered a range of garden retreats for residents to relax, work, socialize and play.
“Especially given today’s environment, outdoor spaces have become a welcome retreat for our residents,” said Extell’s Alan Oppenheimer. “These spaces were designed to serve as a private oasis within our community so that residents can enjoy their own private natural surroundings within the city.”
