Cuomo Pushes for $51B Buildout of Midtown West

Gov. Andrew Cuomo mapped out a $51-billion buildout of Manhattan’s Midtown West in his annual State of the State message. Initiatives include replacing the aging Port Authority Bus Terminal and reconstructing the existing Penn Station across the street from the newly opened Moynihan Train Hall.

The governor also proposed turning Pier 76 into a waterfront park, thereby expanding Hudson River Park. It’s long been used as an NYPD car tow pound.

“Pier 76 is probably the most underutilized piece of real estate in New York City,” said Cuomo. “After decades of apathy, Pier 76 will become a magnificent public space that will delight visitors and tourists and welcome all of Manhattan.”

Cuomo’s Midtown West plan further calls for extending the High Line to Moynihan Train Hall. Additionally, it incorporates 20 million-plus square feet of new commercial development and 1,400 units of affordable housing.
