Community Office Opens in Connection with JFK Expansion
The JFK Redevelopment Community Information Center, a community outreach office, has opened in Jamaica, Queens. The office, serving as local residents’ central resource for job and contracting opportunities, opened in connection with the creation of the JFK Redevelopment Community Advisory Council last October.
“The widely-anticipated grand opening of the JFK Redevelopment Community Information Center reflects the Port Authority’s elevated priority of community engagement in the transformation of JFK, a critical component of keeping the region globally competitive,” said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, who co-chairs the advisory council.
Katz added that the center “will help ensure that the local residents, businesses and communities directly impacted are also able to access the growth opportunities from this bold, $13-billion overhaul of New York’s major gateway.”
Ninety percent of the cost of the JFK International Airport expansion is being covered by private funds. The first new gates are slated to open in 2023.
