1,700 Businesses Answer NYCEDC Call for Emergency Medical Supplies

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) put out a call recently for businesses to turn out emergency medical supplies, and some 1,700 locally-based companies have already responded.

NYCEDC’s ongoing enlistment of businesses to source and/or manufacture face shields, ventilators and other products occurs as the citywide total of COVID-19 cases exceeds that of all but six countries.

In its Twitter feed, NYCEDC cites examples of the results. “NYC-based businesses like Bednark Studios, Adafruit and MakerspaceNYC have already produced 127,000 face shields for NYC healthcare workers,” NYCEDC tweeted.

In another tweet, NYCEDC thanks Novolex “for donating 6,000 pounds of plastic for face shields to our partner Consortium, Defense Innovation Lab for providing storage, and Century 21 stores for donating trucks for transport.”

In still another, NYCEDC’s Linda Clinton discusses how quickly manufacturing efforts for emergency supplies were ramped up at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Brooklyn Army Terminal.
