Apartments Coming to Former Sears Sites at Two Iconic Chicagoland Malls

Dallas-based Centennial has partnered with Focus and Atlantic Residential to add apartments to the mix in its redevelopment of two of Chicagoland’s signature mall properties, Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills, IL and Fox Valley Mall in Aurora, IL. Both multifamily developments will be built on former Sears sites.

At Hawthorn, Focus and Atlantic Residential will develop 303 luxury apartments and 55,000 square feet of Main Street retail where a Sears once stood. At the Aurora property, the former Sears site will give way to 304 apartments as part of the “Fox Valley 2.0” transformation.

“Hawthorn Mall is marching toward a mixed-use future with an 18-hour activation, modern and amenity-filled luxury apartments, incredible food options, and experiential outdoor areas,” said Jon Meshel, SVP of development for Centennial.

Meshel added, “With the addition of these well-planned luxury apartments, Fox Valley Mall will become a true day-to-night destination.”
