Developer the Hudson Group has pivoted from a proposed 230-room hotel project in Boston’s Leather District and will instead build a 115-unit residential project at the site. The firm cited hotel woes in documents filed with the Boston Planning and Development Agency last week.
The proposed 22-story tower at 150 Kneeland St. will remain largely unchanged, according to the developer’s filing. The change was first introduced at two meetings with the Leather District Neighborhood Association over the past two months. The tower is expected to span 96,000 square feet and add 20 affordable housing units for those earning between 30% and 50% of the area’s median income.
“We have been committed to the Leather District for more than 25 years and look forward to continuing that investment at 150 Kneeland St. by providing much needed new housing and neighborhood improvements,” said Noam Ron, partner at Hudson Group.
