Based in Charlotte, Chris Dickson practices at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, an AmLaw 100 law firm that is nearly 230 years old, which he joined as an associate in October 2009, directly from law school. He was promoted to special counsel in 2017 and was elected partner in 2019.

Dickson focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate finance, with an emphasis on loans intended to be securitized or sold in the secondary market. Representing the lenders on syndicated financings and CMBS loans requires a careful balancing act for the closing attorney, and he has become well-known in this specialized area of real estate finance.

He represents financial institutions in connection with the origination of mortgage loans secured by commercial office buildings, industrial and retail properties, hotels, and multifamily housing, including multistate, multi-property pooled transactions. Dickson also has experience in the origination of mezzanine loans, the servicing and sale of mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, and participation interests, repurchase facilities and the renegotiation of distressed mortgage and mezzanine loans. He has developed strong client relationships with some of the nation’s largest financial services institutions

Across his practice, Dickson has advised on 21 transactions in the last 12 months, totaling more than $7.5 billion in value. The transactions he has shepherded have led to the development of multifamily projects, resort hotels, self-storage facilities and marquee office properties across the nation.

In the realm of giving back to the community, Dickson currently volunteers helping non-documented children in the Carolinas who have been abused, neglected or abandoned by one or both parents to achieve Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. He also chaired the Charlotte office’s United Way campaign in 2019, which saw a nearly 80% rise in participation.

These are some of the reasons that we named Dickson to our Atlanta & Southeast grouping of Lawyers in Real Estate. These are real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.
