Women in Real Estate 2019: SunTrust’s Kathy Farrell Recognized for Work Promoting Affordable Housing
Kathy Farrell is an engaged leader committed to supporting affordable housing and women in the workplace, and has financed some of the Southeast’s most creative and high-profile mixed-use retail developments.
In her time at SunTrust, Farrell recognized a gap in the market for more flexible longer-term financing options for clients with institutional quality and stabilized assets. To date, the business has provided more than $2 billion of first mortgage permanent financing to clients.
Under her leadership, SunTrust’s property debt business has seen tremendous growth. Lending volumes have approached $10 billion in recent years, and the bank’s real estate balance sheet is almost twice that figure.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Farrell as one of the 2019 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
Farrell is committed to supporting affordable housing in Atlanta, both through SunTrust’s subsidiary, SunTrust Community Capital (STCC), and through her community and board involvement, including her board work with the Atlanta Beltline Partnership and House ATL.
Additionally, as the Executive Chair of the Enterprise Women’s Network at SunTrust, Farrell advocates for women in the workplace. She has helped fuel growth in numbers, career development programs and volunteer activity.
